Artist: Sir Michael Rocks.
Release Date: July 29, 2014.
Since his introduction into the rap world as one-half of the Cool Kids alongside groupmate Chuck Inglish, Sir Michael Rocks a.k.a. Mikey Rocks, has been known for crafting smooth vocals over laidback beats. While his style won’t feature lyrical greatness, he’s been able to get by on charisma.
His most recent project While You Wait literally came and went underneath the radar, but he still continued to work and craft his own sound in the industry. While Banco continues the persona that Rocks built as a drug-dealing cell phone flipping hustler from previous mix tapes such as Premier Politics, the theme seems to be old and tired as this persona is so far removed from whom he represents in his interviews and other tracks.
The album starts off as Rocks tells the story of the creation of the album being made in Chicago and LA while hearing news of a close friend dying, while Rocks promises that this is the best music of his career. As the intro picks up, a looped beat starts, which finds Rocks comfortably in his zone, as he doesn’t stray away from his formula. The double-time raps are broken apart from a self-philosophizing Michael as he contemplating the meaning of life.
While the beginning of the album is far from impressive it does get better on the Casey Veggies and Iamsu featured song titled “Bussin” as Mikey Rocks viciously raps “You never catch me lacking, never happen, never will/ You put the p***y on a pedestal and pet it still/ You got the game wrong you need to brainstorm.” Sir Michael Rocks isn’t going to go over your head with crazy metaphors or complex concepts. Instead, his songs instead are straight to the point and provide a picture or a story for your mind to consider. The production is impressive and Banco should be applauded for what it represents for Rocks solo career. Featured artists on the album include Twista, Casey Veggies, Too Short, Chuck Inglish, and Robb Banks.
